The Dancing One
From Midnight The Musical By Todrick Hall
Verse 1
Have I Ever Told You 'Bout My Son?
Everyone Called Him The Dancing One,
And He Remind Me Of You, Eyes So Honey Brown,
He Used To Say That His Feet Never Touched The Ground.
Chorus
'Cause He Would Dance Every Chance He Got,
'Til The Soles Of His Feet Got Hot,
'Til He Knew The Moon Had Done Replace The Sun
And He'd Entertain The Boss Lady
'Til One Fine Day, She Just Gave Me
A Pair Of Shoes To Choose To Give A Special Someone
And It Took A Moment Till
He Said Can This Be Real
Verse 2
I Tied His Strings Real Tight,
And He Slept In Those Shoes All Night.
On A Night Like Tonight, He Went Into Town
And Danced With A Girl Who Ain't Honey Brown.
She Had Another Something Or Other Man,
Who Decided He Didn't Want Him To Dance Again.
Bridge
And His Friends Say Him Run Like He's Dancing, They Say He Had Him A Chance,
And They Say He Almost Made It Home To Me Safe And Sound.
They Say, Ethel, "Them Shoes That You Gave Him, Well, Them Shoes Almost Saved Him."
They Say He Looked Like He Was Still Dancing When He Was Found,
And His Feet, They Didn't Touch The Ground.
Outro
I Bet He Dance Every Chance He Get, Making Sure His Mama Never Forget
How He Lit Up Every Room With His Big Old Smile.
So Reil Tonight Thought You Might Be Dressed Up In All Black And White, See
I've Been Holding On To These For Quite A While.
Ain't Nothing Fancy At All,
Tonight At The Ball,
While You All Proper And Prim
Think Of My Boy Reil, I Hope You Dance For Him.
